As I read these words they resonated with me. Our Heavenly Father calls us, His children, to pray for ALL people. I love that word all! He doesn’t say we are to pray for: people who believe like we do, only individuals who request our prayers, humans we feel are deserving of our prayers, or persons who value the same morals or preferences as ourselves. God calls us to pray for everyone. No one is beyond His ability to change through His grace. He goes on to implore us to give thanks for ALL people. That is a tall order! I am sure we can each think of that person that is difficult to forgive, let known, be thankful for. In the same way, we are to pray and give thanks for our leaders: our federal, state, and local government officials. It is not a matter of agreeing with every one of their actions, rather it is about prayerfully lifting them up with thanksgiving so that peace may reign in our lives and we may walk in dignified Godliness. Pray we will be a praying people, with thankful hearts, as we have each been rescued and saved by grace, and desire to bestow that gift on others…today and always!
I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.
